People are mixed about BKK1 (or: "the 1st quarter (sangqat) of the district Boeung Keng Kang"): its urban(e) flip left much of the rest of Phnom Penh behind ... but is the BKK1's fault?

The fans (here easycambodia) write:

"... BKK1 is a vibrant and upscale district in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, known for its blend of traditional charm and modern amenities ... boasting a wide array of international restaurants, trendy cafes, and boutique shops. The streets of BKK1 are lined with a mix of colonial-style buildings and contemporary architecture, creating a unique urban landscape. It's also known for its peaceful residential areas and is home to several embassies and NGOs. BKK1 serves as a perfect example of Phnom Penh's rapid urban development while maintaining its cultural heritage.

Lots of Expats, yes – think Tōkyō's Rappongi in the 1980s – but it's not all-affluent like many (most?) diplomatic areas of cities around the world are. There's definitely a mix of all social classes side by side here that keep BKK1 down-to-Earth.

Phnom Penh's famous Bassac Lane is here - a block or two of tiny bars (like "Little Tōkyō") reminiscent of Haji Lane in Singapore (though not as neat & tidy) or KhaoSan Road in Bangkok like it was in the 1990's (maybe more Soi Rambuttri?)
