GTVC : Speedboats that Deserve the Name

Writer's picture: MarkMark

When traveling from Sihanoukville to one of the outer islands of Cambodia, there are multiple boat companies that offer the service.

For my route from Sihanoukville to Koh Rong's LongSet Beach, I opted for GTVC.

By the way, I will suggest having at look at 12Go Asia for your routing options – I booked directly with them and it was a very easy & smooth experience! They show (as per today) 50 connections for the route Sihanoukville to LongSet Beach, Koh Rong per day...

Excellent notes for cleanliness, punctuality, service ...

I only missed an explanation of the process – A sign in the office waiting room explaining the next steps would be beneficial !! For all those taking GTVC speedboat from Sihanoukville to Koh Rong or one of the other islands:

The Sihanoukville Autonomous Port Area contains restaurants, very clean restrooms ... and a room with multiple ATM machines - use them, as there are not many once you reach the islands!!

When you do go to the GTVC office and waiting area,

here the information you hope for, but that you cannot find there:

  1. Please check-In at desk - we will give you a boarding slip that you need to give the staff when boarding the boat.

  2. You can, if you prefer, wait in the outdoor waiting area instead of the office - this is directly at the pier behind the Amazon Café.

  3. About tens minutes before boarding, we will escort you to the pier and show you which boat to board for your destination.

  4. Please leave your baggage on the pier when boarding: ensure that suitcases with wheels are lying down so as not to roll away - we will load your bags onto the boat for you.

  5. When boarding, give the staff your boarding slip and choose your seat.

  6. At your destination, we will unload baggage onto the pier where you can retrieve it.

I hope you enjoy the ride as much as I did !

p.s. ... also note: there are 2 stops on Koh Rong ... make sure you ask for Long Set if you're going there!
