L’mut Tum, Phnom Penh

When looking for really good food and a good value for your money, always trust the locals!

Whilst in Phnom Penh, I enjoyed a wonderful lunch with a friend, Sareth: He was my fantastic and knowledgeable guide through the temple ruins of Angkor in 2019 - then Covid hit, crushing the Cambodian economy at its heart: tourism.

He‘s resilient and flexible, though, looks and sounds fantastic, and has a new career in Phnom Penh … but his heart lies in tourism, and he still helps with travel & transfer arrangements … It was great to catch up and hear what he’s up to.

And: the restaurant (L’mut Tum - his suggestion) was fantastic !!

It's a bit off the regular Expat path in Boeng Kak Ti Pir – an area that the locals consider very up-and-coming, but minus all the Expat-ChiCHi ...

It's all green and leafy from the street, but inside, a loft-like structure opens up ...

The food here was fantastic – which I was not expecting considering the prices ... only then did I realise how much BKK1 warps your sense of cost. BKK1 is cheap by European standards – but still twice the cost of other neighbourhoods in Phnom Penh.

So .. what did we have?

Well, the was the steamed green Coconut filled with Amok Fish Curry, a huge bowl of Proherl Soup with lots of fresh and healthy greens, a green Papaya Salad with Salted Crab, and a plate of Laotian Lab ... four entrees for the two of us ... needless to say, we had leftovers.

Price

The four entrees above plus drinks ... hold on: under $27 (25€) all together!! As far as quality of food per dollar, always trust the locals !!
