Welcome to paradise

Location

Long Set Beach, on the Southeastern coast of Koh Rong island, on a key between an inner bay mangrove and the ocean... beautiful for morning walks!

Impressions

Make sure you book a boat to Long Set Beach: the island has multiple piers!

The staff till pick you up at the pier and take your baggage to your room.

The 4 star hotel is sei up with multiple buildings and pools in a shady garden under cashew trees and coconut palms. Frangipani (Plumeria) and orchids bloom everywhere you look.

Beach

Long Set Resort has its own stretch of beach with comfy teak wood loungers and cheerful yellow beach umbrellas. The water here is clean and with very little waves.

For sports enthusiasts, stand up paddle boards and clear "glass-bottom" kayaks are available... free of charge.

Not enough action? A small island off the coast can be reached from the pier in 10-25 minutes, and crazy (loud) things like jet skis and water propulsion boots (flyboards) are available there - so close by, but far enough so as not to disturb those relaxing on the beach.

Room

First impression of the rooms: very large!

Clean, beachy design, good beds, huge bathrooms. Choice of ceiling fan or air conditioner (I guess you could even do both, but why would you?).

A word of warning: there is zero television in the rooms - so relax, read a book, write poetry, or meditate.

A second word of warning: power failures are very common on the island ... up to 10 per day maybe. They last anywhere from 20 seconds to 2 minutes... but maybe bring a flashlight or keep your phone charged !

Bathroom

Asian, so with hose... and a sign to please not put toilet paper into the toilet – this I think might merit its own blog explaining the hygienic benefits of Asian toilets for those unaccustomed to them....

Bar / Restaurant

Mango Smoothie , freshly squeezed orange juice is just as available as a fresh hot Cappuccino, a Singapore Sling, or a bottle (or glass) of Chardonnay.

Foods offer a selection of both Khmer, Thai and Western dishes... so yes, you can order cheeseburgers or spaghetti while you're in Cambodia (just unfriend me if you do).

Saturdays they offer a beachside BBQ, with a selection of freshly caught fish and assorted meats to choose from: you order by weight at the raw bar, then they grill it fresh for you.

But even on other nights, there are always a few tables on the beach under the stars for this of you for whom the open air (but roofed) rests is not plein-air enough .

Breakfast

A nice breakfast buffet awaits you, with both Western and Asian dishes - and an Egg station for fresh made-to-order egg dishes ... and (perfect for me) a fresh Noodle Soup bar !!

Price

Room Category: Deluxe Double with Pool View (booked via agoda)

Price: I paid about 670€ (about $720) for 6 nights, so 112€ ($120) for the room per night.

Included in price was Deluxe with King bed and pool view, water/sports activities, welcome drink, free coffee (instant) & tea in room, breakfast buffet, free WiFi, free fitness center access, two free bottles of drinking water per day... so really only food & drinks (and fantastic massages) to pay on top.
