This hotel is the perfect symbiosis of natural sustainable resort but with comforts most "eco-lodges" don't offer. Living here is like living in a tree house on a hill, with spectacular views over the treetops:
And yet it's only a ten minute walk from the beach and the spectacular Kep West, 15 to the Crab Market with its many restaurants – and 2 dollars will get you a tuk-tuk into Kep Beach and Dara.
Location
location on google maps = here
Kep (also written Kaeb) is a city split in two by a large promontory / natural reserve: there is Kep proper to the East, with its beach running East-West, and, to the West around the big rock, Kep West with its beach running more North-South. A walkway connects the two down along the waterside - it takes about 10-15 minutes between the two.
Kep West is the more modern development, with its modern pier and dual restaurant, and the Tara Lodge ist just a block up the road – and threes blocks up the hill – from there.
A driver from Phnom Penh got me here for $80 (73€) in just under 3 hours – but that was mostly due to road construction, so I anticipate it being more like two hours when they're finished.
Impressions
Room
The room was very large (I had the two King bed "family room"), but even larger when I added the terrace/balcony outside, which was mine alone and wrapped around my room: seating for four plus a huge desk area practically double my total room space.
WiFi is excellent (5G) throughout the resort, but TV not so – but I do not watch TV on holidays, so I could not have cared less. 3-4 channels with good reception and in english language, lots with snow, and lots with Khmer (and I think even Vietnamese, as we're so close to the border here). But I am not here to watch TV - the TV was on for maybe 20 minutes total over the last 5 days!
Bathroom
The rustic-natural bathroom is very clean and is euipped with a shower of ample water pressure (considering the water shortages of Cambodia, their desire to be as sustainable as possible, and the fact the water needs to be pumped up to the higher floor, that is more than I expected). And the water gets hot if you so desire (I tend to shower cooler here than in Europe ... maybe something to do with all the heat!)
Bar / Restaurant
They offer a pleasant mix of european/french and khmer dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and a nice outdoor bar to hang out at for your sundowner and after-dinner drinks.
Breakfast
In my attempt to live as healthy as possible, it kept with Green Tea and a noodle soup with vegetables. But of course the classic eggs-any-style with bacon or muesli and yogurt breakfasts were also available.
